Ruston Kelly
Dirt Emo
Rounder
Before he was a rising alt-country star, an accomplished Nashville songwriter or husband to Kacey Musgraves, Ruston Kelly was an angsty teenager sitting in his South Carolina bedroom and wailing along to Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday. Dirt Emo: Vol. 1 finds Kelly reengaging with the bleeding tunes of his youth through a cover album that reimagines emo's glory days with a little more twang -- plus a few left-field surprises that don't exactly fall into the swoopy hair and black nail polish category. |

Avi Kaplan
I'll Get By
Fantasty
With the exception of lead track, "Change on the Rise," (produced by Paul Moak) I'll Get By was helmed by producer Mike Mogis, well known for his work with Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst and First Aid Kit among others. On I'll Get By, Kaplan, the former Pentatonix star, raised just 40 minutes from Sequoia National Park in the rolling hills of central California, rediscovered his musical roots and delved deeper into the music he's always loved. Exploring a range of sounds from soul to bluegrass, these songs are threaded together by the search for spiritual redemption, and cast with acoustic guitar, pedal steel, swirling organ and deep groove percussion that beautifully complement Avi's haunting, other worldly vocal ability. |

Logan Ledger
Logan Ledger
Rounder
Bay Area-bred singer/songwriter Logan Ledger sets most of his songs in lightless or shadowy spaces: the bottom of the ocean, the abandoned cells of Alcatraz, dreamless bedrooms, desolate streets in the dead of night. Logan Ledger (produced by 13-time Grammy Award-winner T Bone Burnett) emerges as a distinctly electric offering, yet continually reveals the rootsy sensibilities at the heart of his kinship with Burnett. "I think we're each attracted to the more sinister aspects of folk and roots music, and we each have a desire to keep that music alive while finding a way to make something new out of it," Ledger says. In turn, the album bears an era-defying quality made all the more powerful by Ledger's voice, a timeless instrument that channels utter lonesomeness even in the album's most joyous moments. |

The Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) is a national level organization comprised of the best independent record stores in America. CIMS was founded in 1995 with the goal of uniting like minded independent store owners, giving them a more powerful voice in the music industry. The stores that make up CIMS are all very different, but we share the same desires – to be the heart of our communities, to super-serve our customers, to support and develop artists, and to share our love of music.
For more information about CIMS and the stores in our organization, please visit cimsmusic.com or find us through social media with the #cimsmusic hashtag. And please remember to always shop local by supporting your neighborhood record store.
